My 75 F150 has a lot of play in the steering and because of that, it wanders real bad. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the excessive play and wandering?
There's at least 2 inches of play in either direction. That's too much play!!
Have a buddy/girlfriend/wife turn the steering wheel while you watch for play. Where you see something move the wrong way, or movement going in and nothing coming out, replace it. Also inspect your radius arm and I beam bushings, rag joint and the bushing at the end of the steering column.
Alvin, I didn't get to check it out because I work at my home town Ford dealer and we have been swamped with work orders. It was busy but I'll try and find some time to take a look.

Cool. :)
I can agree with Beavis 100% if we can change it to...
"have them rock the steering wheel back and forth in varying amounts"
and
"-feel- each joint for -any- lost motion"
BTDT and had more like 2+1/2" play at the steering wheel, all of which was
in the power steering gear's sector shaft "bearing-surfaces" being worn.
"bearing surfaces" ...because there weren't no bearings installed at the factory. :/
I got mine line bored and brass bearings installed at a machine shop that had
made a tool specially for the job.
Out of maybe 500 modifications(?;) I've done to my pickup over the years,
that might just be my favorite one. :)
Kinda like making a junky rifle real accurate or something. ;)

Ok, that is a better means of diagnosis than what I posted. Too bad I cant go back and change it to words similar to yours, then accuse you of copying what I had posted.
