Hey,
All summer long I haven't added any water to the radiator.
I've been running the air all summer.
Yesterday had to add about 1/2 a gallon coolent.
Then today only drove about 1/4 mile.
After the truck sat for 1/2 a day, had to add some more coolent.
Could the radiator cap be bad?
Also could just about 1/2 gallon low on coolent cause the check engine soon light to come on?
I know that my 98 when brand new came low on coolant from the factory - I got it end of september (in montana) and on the cold nights and mornings couldn't figure out why my heater only blew hot air intermittently - turned out my coolant had been pretty low and there was no leakage - just oversight at the factory I guess - however the check engine light never came on. They added some coolant and that fixed the problem.
I checked for leaks, and found none.
But I changed out the plugs and plug wires and changed the oil.
Took the cables off for 24 hrs.
Light went off.
Then on the way to work, light came back on and engine didn't want to run right.
Checked the plug wires to make sure they were on good.
Filled the half tank of gas to full.Still didn't want to run right.
Took truck to Ford house, they did the EEC TEST PCM(PO1 75)-RICH BANK 2,
and they changed the air filter.
Truck running great now.
Could I have fixed the problem with what I did?
All said and done cost $134.00 from Ford House.
I spent $80.00 on parts at Auto Zone and put everything in myself.
