I have an old '87 F-150 that I use for a plow truck. The truck came from the factory with cab lights. I'd like some type of warning light on top when plowing, but I don't want one of those big beacon lights or a lightbar.
Has anyone ever installed strobe lights in their cab lights that are on a separate switch for plowing, towing, etc? What did you buy and where did you buy it?
If you don't need anything brighter than the existing cab lights, insert an electronic flasher in series with the wire that feeds them power. Then, wire a switch in parallel of the flasher so you can short it to bypass and have the lights operate normally.
You want an electronic flasher rather than a mechanical one, to ensure that it will flash even if the bulbs are low-current.
Another, much more expensive option is to insert strobe lights into the housings, much like is done for ambulance/police/fire into OEM headlights, markers, reverse lights, et al.
I thought of add ing a flasher to the current setup, and the brightness would be fine, but I want a sparatic flashing of the 5 lights and not just all 5 lights turning on and off. I want a unpredictable, independant flashing of all five.
What about the sets of 2 strobes they sell on ebay for $5 or so. If one set of 2 were installed in each cab light???
dosnt seem like a good idea to me. you want your dome light to flash? heres a better idea walk in to your nearest autozone (only place ive found it) over were fog lights and such are they will have a kit its like 14.?? its a set of strobes that are made to bolt on your licenses plate with. ive got 4 sets in my front lights and two in the back should do what u need with out the light flashin in the cab.

Hes talking about the 5 lights you see mounted on the roof of some trucks, on the exterior right above and behind the windshield, their simply extra marker lights like semis have.
oh ok got ya well those little strobes should work fine in there to would be able to tell u for certain (project i got in mind) but i cant find a set of marker lights that i like to go on my truck.
