I know this topic has been talked about before but I couldn't find anything about it. I am looking to get some more HP our of my Truck. I have a 98' F-150 with the 4.6L in it. I know people will say go out and buy one with a 5.7L but that just isn't an option. So where do I start. Before adding too much HP I was thinking about starting with some cold air intake and then some exhaust. If you guys wouldn't mind letting me know what the best way to get some more HP out of my truck I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
My budget is not very large to begin with that is why I am looking for advice on what I should start with first. I havn't done anything yet but what thinking that cold air and exhaust would be a good place to start. Let me guys know what you think even if it might be out of my price range. At this point I'm just looking for a little more get up and go.
P.S. Thanks for the reminder about the 5.7L I'm pretty sure you know what I meant.
Realize that with a cai and exhaust you really aren't going to unleash some sort of hidden hp gain that'll knock you back in your seat... unless you are driving off a cliff or something...
That being said, for the best hp/tq gains I'd suggest a tuner. In particular a custom tune would probably be best. A cai and exhaust imo can't hurt. It's what I did and I'm very happy with it. I went with k&n series and a glasspack (althogh for gains I'd look into magnaflow).
Longtubes would help a bunch, e-fans, etc. The list can keep going, but your wallet will get lighter. Good luck and keep us posted!
A good tuner will be the best... of all my mods that was the one that made the diff... and they offer so much more than just power... just having a firm tranny shift is amazing...and a code reader... and built in 0-60/1/4 mile timer.... plus custom tuning to your likeing... get an edge or a diablo sport...
get as much air to the motor as possible it has to breathe and get it back out and the tuner for the ratios. so air intake performance tuner and a good flowing exhaust
Starting with a cold air intake wouldn't be a bad idea. After that you should think about upgrading your exhuast and adding a performance tuner. You will get the most gains from the tuner if it's paired with the aftermarket intake and exhast.
Do you guys think that by putting on some new pulleys that I will gain any noticable HP or would I be just throwing my money away? After all of the above talked about of coarse.

i had the pulleys on my truck along with a cai, couldnt notice any real difference in power, but did noice a positive change at the gas pump.
