I have a 1997 f-250 that has been great untill I put these step sides on the truck. the shop that did it drilled holes through my rocker pannel to bolt the steps and when they did they nicked some wires that were running though there. some of those wires were going to the spedometer on the rear end so the truck started running bad like it wouldn't shift. Well they found that and fixed it but now its doing it again, but only slightly. sometimes when approching 35mph the truck misses but keeps running. sometimes when coasting fowared the truck dies , but then starts and runs fine. I am thinking it is the same problem, but was wondering if someone might have some other ideas as to what might be wrong.

Yes, like, where did you see it last?
Sorry, just couldn't help myself.
So, seriously, I don't think a cut wire going to the VSS would cause your truck to die. Odd shifting, yes, but should not kill it. Something else is going on and we at least need to know if it's diesel or gas.
I'm going to jump to the assumption that it diesel, and your CPS is failing.
