The valves on the 2.5L are non-adjustable.
How many miles?
Valvetrain noise is not normal...check for normal oil pressure (minimum 45 PSI cold start, 15 PSI hot idle), using the specified oil grade, etc.

Absolutely no adjustment provision from the factory, as RP said, the design employs auto-adjusters. The 2.5l, and 2.3l w/8plug head (same head) used a roller cam setup. I would guess a roller locked up on one of the camshaft followers, or an auto adjuster failed. If it hasn't run too long in this condition, you may be able to repair it by simply replacing the faulty part. If it were me, I would pull the valve cover off and inspect the valvetrain components carefully, all of them are under the cover. Good luck whatever you decide to do.
