Ok.. so my dads getting ready to sell his '99 expedition and theres a whole bunch of little electrical gremlins that we've been dealing with for the past 2 or 3 years.
First one is the door ajar light stays on after we enter or leave the truck. We took it to the dealer while it was still under warranty and they said they couldnt find a problem. We thought it has to do something with one of the switches in the door latch but i dont know.
And with the door ajar light being on, all the interior lights and running board lights stay on. They would stay on for atleast 3 or 4 hours and not go out.
So then the other day i fooled around with the fuses to see if we could get the lights to turn of because the day before, the lights drained the battery. Saw one that controls the running board lights but it ends up controling the abs also. Then the truck couldnt shift out of park becase of that safety switch. Then i noticed that the interior light relay was getting really hot to the touch. Now is that normal or is that the culprit, a bad relay? And could it be the timer for the lights also? Or is that part of the relay?
Usually the problem with the door ajar and lights staying on is a dirty/gunked up door switch. The common remedy is to get out a can of wd40 and spray the heck out of the door switches(directly into the door) until the latch/switch is clean. It seems that most of those who use this method seem to have good results. Hope this helps!
