Holley carb question

Have a Holley carb (probably 1850?) with vacuum secondaries, and when I get on the gas hard, it bogs until I let up a little, then it takes right off. Even when the engine is winding out pretty well and I floor it, I can feel the engine hesitate. Do you guys think it's just incorrect jetting on the secondaries, or is the vacuum setup on the secondaries not set right?

Holley carb question

I just answered this question 5 days ago, and it fixed the other blokes question. You might want to search for that thread. Or, replace your center squirter with a #25 and theres a good chance your problem will be fixed. Most guys go swapping out jets and etc not knowing that heavier vehilces need more duration on their initial shot which equals a smaller squirter. First you need to id your carb. Then pull out the squirter and look at the number stamped on it. If its larger than a #25 try this fix first since its the easiest and often the problem.

Post Holley carb question

Jeremy,

First check the accelerator pmp adjustment, at full throttle there should be at least .015 before the arm and diaphram are bottomed out.

Before changing squirters, check to see that the fuel is coming out both sides of the nozzel and gives a positive squirt, this is btwn the venturi's, Fix this with a piece of wire or a needle, some times you have to do it a couple of times to flush the clog out. Be careful taking the squirter out not to drop the screw or the thin gasketdown the hole.

The check valve under the screw that holds the nozzle can aslo be stuck.

Jim

check the vacuum diaphram spring, if a really light one was put in then it would cause the same problems.

Also inside the vacuum "can" the small check ball is often discarded/lost or the track under it is open up/deepened.
