Hey,
I'm new here just wanting to see what everybody uses in their 460 for oil. I just bought mine and I'll put pictures up soon. Just gotta take some for $700 I can't complain. The reason being is I'm getting a low oil pressure reading when the trucks warm but when I start it and it's cold the oil pressure reads normal till I warm it up. Just wondering thanks
The first thing you should do is get a good aftermarket guage if you don't already have one. The factory guages aren't exactly the best for accuracy. A good aftermarket guage will tell you what your pressure really is without any mistake.
As for the oil, I personally use Valvoline 10w40 with a Motorcraft filter on my 460. 10,000 miles on a rebuild and not one oil related problem so far.
I use Motorcraft oil and filters in all three of my Fords, 10W-40 in my '83 F350 with 460, 5w-30 in '99 Ranger 4 cyl. and 5W-20 in '03 Taurus. I've never had a problem with Motorcraft oil or filters in various Ford vehicles I've owned over the years. Low oil pressure once warmed up is a symptom of worn main and/or rod bearings. 20W-50 might help the hot oil pressure some but is not a permanent cure. If the gauge is around the middle of "Normal" when engine is cold then I expect it is not a gauge or sending unit problem.
