When I bought the truck 4 years ago I could have sworn the doors locked automatically when put into drive or the key turned on(can't remember which) can anyone tell me if thier truck locks or am I just imagioning it did at one point. If so how do I fix?
1. turn ignition on
2. press the unlock button 3 times
3. turn ignition off
4. press the unlock button 3 times
5. turn ignition on, the horn will chirp
6. press the unlock button then the lock button
the horn will beep once for autolock or twice for no autolock
7. turn ignition off.

Didn't do a thing for my '97 F150 4x4, LWB Extended cab XLT. Never got the horn to chirp or beep. followed your instructions repeatedly.
Too bad
Try reversing the unlock and lock to see if that might work. I might have them reversed. Hopefully this works. Also, check out your owners manual, it should have something in there. At least that is what I was told since it worked for mine and I didn't check the book
Good Luck
I assume if you go through the sequence again it will turn it off. I have not checked my manual since I wanted them to lock. Also, I had mine off for 2 years now and didn't even know they could turn off. I just thought there were electrical problems.
FYI you can open the door even though they are locked on fords from the inside so it really doesn't matter if it locks. I know my other car is an Acura and you can't open the doors from the inside if they are locked. It drives me nuts. Hope this helps.
I have been reading this forum for over a year and just now was able to put the info to use. I have a 97F150 4.6 XLT SC 4X2, and thanks to you I now have Auto doorlocks. It was not setup at the dealer when I bought it new and there was no mention in the owners manual.
Incidentally, I have over 88k miles and have only replaced the Alternator & the Steering gear box after they both started squealing. It has been a Ford Tough Truck and will buy another one if Ford ever comes out with the Cummins Dsl.

Worked like a champ. I've had my 97 since brand new and didn't know that I had this feature. BTW, I do have the keyless entry so maybe this is the key to it working. Good info, thanks.
I've had my "97 F150 since Nov. 1996, and never knew I had this feature until I read this posting. I love it, but why can't the dealers let you know these things? Are we just supposed to find out on our own??
