Whenever i did the tuneup on my truck i broke half of those little plastic things on the plug wires, then rest i just chucked out because i didnt think they were good for anything, but today i was told that i shouild not let and of the wires tought and thats what the plastic things were for. Is this true? If so what i can i use instead?
It is true, it'll cause a misfire. I know we carry them at Advance. Its the wires for the cylinders that fire next to each other in the firing order (I think 5 and 4 cant touch, as well as 7 and 8). You might try zip ties if you cant find the separators.
It's very important in these trucks to route those wires correctly and have the separators. Stopped my low-end miss immediately. Also be sure the wires aren't touching any hot places. Take the extra time.......it's worth it.
route them in front to back order untill you get to the distributor cap, then do your over/unders.
it looks neater and the close proximity to the coil will limit the cross-fire
and aftermarket plugwires NEVER fit as well as the OEM's
they've usually got one either way too long, or just too short
