slap on a header, or efi exhaust manifolds, and maybe go to a duraspark II set-up, or sort through your wiring to figure it all out. Mine was an '86 and had choke solenoids and everything, removed it all, put a pre-emission 1bbl on and DSII. I essentially eliminated the computer and wiring nightmare, lol. A friend has an '84, and he shoulda done the same thing....he has replaced everything in the ignition system, and it still doesn't fire. Just food for thought, since the Holley may not have provisions for all your stuff, but I don't know. With search down, you can try googling 300 6 Holley 390 and ford-trucks all in the search window....good luck.
I just installed the Offy and Holley set up on my 1980 F150. It was easy enough. Had to fab a throttle bracket but I have a thread in this forum titled Offy intake and Exhaust Mani where another member showed me how to make one for the cost of a piece of steel. Might help you out to look into it.
Havi- Did you remove the solenoids on your truck or just cap them? I'm doing this swap right now on an 85 and was wondering if I can pull them since I'm going to a 70's 1bbl and DS II. Since the DS II plugs into the factory wiring harness I wasn't sure if the stock computer would be a factor.
I swapped the engine into my '79 bronco. The bronco's existing wiring was used, which has a resistor built in for the DSII set-up. The box on the fenderwell for the DSII controls your spark, so I would say the computer is no longer needed, unless your tranny requires it, which I doubt. If you have the DSII wiring harness, you'll see there's only a couple plugs needed to be tied to your existing wiring. After the DSII is working correctly, I'd then move on to the carb swap....along the way you may find you don't need the solenoids. My 2 cents. You may want to look into the resistor wire for your DSII, as the 70's Ford's bypassed the resistor at start up, but then followed a different wiring path in the run position which had a resistor. Good luck.
