I have a 79 Bronco, 400, Auto, 4X4, set of 33s on it, just put a 4 inch lift on it. The power steering stopped working all at once a couple weeks ago BEFORE I put the lift on. The pump makes no noise, fluid is full, Belt is on it, I'm lost!!
Any ideas?
That is true, however shouldn't you point him to the 4x4 forum, or the power steering forum, seeing as how the 4x4 and power steering experts don't hang out in the 73-79 forum, nor the big bronco forum, giving people grief about the wrong forums? The bronco is built on the same platform as our beloved trucks, except they have a shell, and are shorter, just in case you didn't know that, or possibly forgot.
Fordman, I would start with pulling the pressure side off of the steering gear. Put the end into a bucket and fire up the truck. It should pump a significant amount of fluid, and build up pressure and make a real mess when you try to block it with something other than your body. If you do not get good flow, or pressure, replace the pump. If you don't mind doing diagnosis by parts repair, replace the pump for good measure. Only two things can be bad, the pump, and the steering gear.
