What do you all run for total timing on your FEs? I had mine set at about 34 degrees and it would pull pretty good from 4k to 5k+. I advanced it about 4-5 degrees from there to give me 38 - 39 total and it was a pretty big difference from 4k - 5k than the 34 degrees. Keep in mind of course that I am still running points so I may benefit from advancing it more than you guys with better ignitions. I am still getting absolutely no detonation at this setting but I completely wasted a co workers Plymouth Prowler about an hour ago. He runs a 14.9 E.T.
Well, everybody’s is going to be a little different but the 390 in the truck likes 36* while the 428CJ in the Stang likes a little more like 42*. The cam is a lot bigger in the pony plus I don’t haul anything with it except buns.
Ratsmoker, I use the stock dizy w/vacumn advance and `pertronix module`.. My vacuumn advance is adjustable and i set it to have it `all in` at 3,000rpm 38 deg. MAX....Initial is at 10-12deg
Rat, I run 12 initial with 38 in total...my 428 has the full msd set up. It can handle 18 (!?!) initial and 42 total, but that makes it hard to start and seems a little on the edge so I backed it down. Congrats on another dodge eaten by an old Ford pu...gotta love it
Thanks for the posts. It's not much to brag about performance wise when you put the hurtin' on a prowler but its the fact that its a $45,000 "roadster". Most other roadsters are pretty fast. I am going to "track test" the timing on sunday. I think I am about as good as I can get but we will see. I'm not afraid to go to 44 degrees as long as theres no pinging.
