Ive got the 78' f-250 in my sig and i would like to put a 460 in it. My question is will it affect the value of my tuck if i do that mod considering the rarity of my particular truck. Not lookin to gain value, but do not want to loose it either.
I think having the having the 460 is better than the 400, if both were stock. If you are worried about keeping your truck numbers matching (which nobody really cares about IMO) then dump the cash into pumping up your 400. When I go truck shopping, If I see clevland valve covers, I automatically deduct money from what I am willing to pay for the truck. 460 4x4's can fetch more than a 400, the general consensus is that the 400 is a turd. With gas prices, the 400 might be an asset, because its not a big block, and big blocks are known for their ability to pass anything but a gas station. The mileage is slightly better with a 400, but the power is double with a 460 with a few inexpensive modifications.
Worst case, put in the 460, and put the 400 in shrink wrap. When you sell the truck, if the buyer gives you grief about the 460, and tries to chew you down on the price, ask them how much would they pay if it was original. Once they answer, show them the original motor, and ask for the price they just quoted you. Aside from date casting codes, I am not aware of any sort of suffix or serial number stamping similar to what GM used. Any 78 motor made within a couple months before your build date could be used to fool anybody. (assuming anybody cared, which I have never seen.)
If it were a SCS and not just a CS I would say maybe it would effect the value simply cause theres so very few made/left...on the other hand...if you just included the original and now spare engine...then I would think it would add to the value of the whole package.

Does your truck have the original tires on it? how about he original belts andhoses? or the original batteries?
When it comes to adding value or losing it things like that make a difference but if you don'th have that stuff or don't have NOS replacements with he proper part numbers etc it really doesn't matter as far as it goes
