Blue~ I'd really need to know what type carb you have, alhtough I would have to admit that I am only an "expert" with 4-barrel Holleys...never torn down a 2-barrel in my life. If its a Holley 2-barrel I would think it has the same primary set up as the four though. The technical name for the part I keep calling the "center squirter" is the Accelerator Pump Discharge Nozzle. If you look past the butterfly on your bowl you will see (on a Holley) the top of a screw head sitting between your boosters. This holds down the center squirter, which is simply a cylinder that modulates the fuel discharge from the acceleractor pump circuit. They are all stamped with a number...the higher the numbers gives you a larger dose of fuel quicker, the smaller numbers extend the duration of the fuel delivery, which is neccesary to prevent bog on heavy vehicles. To be honest, I wouldn't suspect this to be the problem on your application, since a 2-barrel should have a small center squirter...then again I don't know for sure what the 2-barrels come with...they could have huge ones for all I know. Its easy enought to check. It is possible for the two small orifices on the squirter to become clogged also, so it wouldn't hurt to pull yours out, check the number, and make sure its clean. This is all assuming you have a Holley, but any other brand would have some sort of similar item that would perform the same function. Good luck, and let us know if you need more help. Oh, almost forgot...there is a small felt washer that sits beneath the squirter, usually they remain stuck to its bottem when you pull it out, just keep an eye on it so you don't lose it.
you might akso try adjusting your accelerator pump. if the flap opens before the gas gets there,it ain't gone burn it.i know because i just went through this myself with a 390 & a holley 750.loosen the adjustment bolt to quicken the response of the pump.
I just recently bought a 66 with a 352 2barrel with headers and dual exhuast, and it has that same hesatation you all are speaking of, myself not being overly familiar with carbs can someone take a picture of this "center squirter" so I can see if I need to go to a smaller one?
