This is a game everybody seems to like playing here... and the answer for starters, is almost always the same. It depends on where you live.

Running is good, but verify it still runs before making a final offer. I would say to at least add some iso-heet as well as fuel stabilizer to the tank before even starting it. At least I think this should help make the old gas safer for the engine.

No rust is also good, but lots of body damage immediately sounds bad. I would say that in most places, that factor drops the value of the truck to around 500-700.

Wait and see what other people think, though. I'm young and not always so good at judging the value of a vehicle.

I really think that it's up to you. I would pay more for the one my Dad used to own than one I found because it means so much more to me, and I think she's worth it. My bank says that a 1970 Ford F100 4WD 360 V-8 in moderate condition is worth 5,600, and one in mint would be worth 10,000 to 15,000. That does sound a little high to me, so again it would be up to you and your pocketbook.

I gave $600 for a SWB (Short Wheel Base) Flareside (Stepside) with a 360 and a 4 speed. Body is about 70% I'm guessing. Hood may need replacement, body rust in lower rear corners of cab, wood bed is mostly rotted, rear springs sprung, driveline bent/dented, grill misshapen but all there. Sooo, it is really up to you. If the truck really "speaks" to you and the initial purchase price doesn't cramp your pocket book for later repairs, go for it. I probably shouldn't say this but, I was really looking for a circa '65 Chevy stepside 2WD but they are as rare as Hens' teeth and any you do find are outta the ball park in price. Then came along this jewel, just couldn't pass it up man! It has really grown on me. I almost got her on the road. All I gotta do is get the driveline fixed (a buddy hooked me up today, should have it in about 2 weeks) and all the instruments and lights working and I'm off. It's been licensed and insured for about 5 months! Have had some minor med. problems but I'm good to go now. Can't wait to hear her roar! Happy motoring!

I bought my '71 16 years ago for $50.00 with a blown 360 (ran out of oil) and a granny geared 4 speed on a 3/4 ton 2 wd frame. Now after many delays and time parked in the warehouse to do other projects and make a living I finished buffing the cab and am readying the box for paint. It's had a number of mods, all the suspension is now 1/2 ton, new everything in the suspension, brakes, steering, interior, paint, engine, wiring, and paint. I've got a bit over $7k in parts and hundreds of hours in labor.... I guess my point is try to buy it cheap, cuz a rebuild from the ground up is time consuming and expensive!!!! What you've described in my neighborhood would fetch somewhere between $200 and $400....
