'02 Diesel Excursion - Problem with dash electronics
Certain things in my dash are intermittently not working. About 1/2 of the time when I crank the vehicle, my radio, windows, garage door buttons and other things do not work. After driving a few miles all these electronics will all of a sudden start working. Sometimes if I turn the engine off and back on all these things will come to life but it doesn't appear to be in the ignition switch. And I can't see a problem with any of the fuses but it sure seems like a fuse is out when this happens. But it sure doesn't seem like a fuse when all of a sudden everything might start working again with radio presets, etc still in memory. Anybody had this experience?
I also have this problem. Mine genrally only does it on cold mornings. This summer though( we have temps of 120 in the summer) it did it to me on a really hot day and the A/C went out as well. The fan worked but just blew hot air. When I got home and turned it off and then back on everything was fine. I have had it checked out several times but they can't figure it out. Someone suggested that it might be in the ignition switch because it only happens in extreme tempuratures and then self corrects either when driving down the road or by restarting. Any other suggestions?
My 2003 exc also has electrical problems.
1. Last 10 or so times of starting when cold the indicator lights ie.wait to start light etc. on left side of instrument panel would only come on after cycleing the key 3 or 4 times.
2. After the vehicle has been sitting / shut off for even 30 minutes or so none of the courtesy lights will come on until after turning the key on / off.
3. In the past I have had a few times when the radio, guages, windows and climate control will not work after startup but will all start working by turning on the headlights. I think there must be some control device that the power passes through to all these items and maybe it has a poor connection that is helped by the additional power draw from turning on the headlights.
I have had it to the dealer for this problem 2 times and they say they can't duplicate the problem so they can't determine what is wrong.
It would sure be nice if the interior lights would come on when I unlocked the doors without having to turn the key.
