I bought a early 1989 f150 4.9 6 cyl multiport fuel injection 5 spd it has had some previous owner work a lot of electric sensors and i have checked the fuel system it has a rough idle and stalls when cold then when it warms up to temp it does better but still has a rough idle and a racing problem.

I also have a 'rough idle' problem...little different from yours. But..that said, I can tell you that from my research...starting problems on cold..and racing (i.e. surges in rpm's) are probably due to a bad EGR valve. That is, it most probably is stuck in open position.
Best is, check your computer codes firstl and then go from there though. If you don't know how to do that...buy yourself a manual for the truck...a very good investment if you're not a mechanic!
