ABS light coming on

ABS light coming on
I just bought a 1990 Ford Ranger. It has rear ABS. The engine was really dirty and I did my usuaul engine cleaning and detailing. Anyway, the brakes seem to work fine but today both the brake and antilock light came on at the same time. I am wondering if spraying water on the engine might have gotten some wires wet or messed something up. Its been a few days since I sprayed the engine and the light coming on. Not sure if they are related or not. Where is the ABS sensor I have read about. Sorry to put up two posts on this but I could not figure out how to edit my other post and add to it. Turning the truck off and back on makes the light go out for about 15-20 minutes then it comes back on.

The edit button at the bottom of a post window goes away after a time, I think something like an hour. So we must edit within that time.
I take it that both brake lights came on AFTER you washed the engine compartment????
If you used a pressure washer to tidy things up under there, it may have forced water into places it shouldn't go, or maybe knocked some connections loose.
With both brake lights on, I'd first look to the brake master cylinder fluid level. if thats ok, then look to the brake master cylinder float & it's electrical connector. Sometimes the float will stick or otherwise act out & the system will think fluid level is low & turn the brake light on.
I think the RABS motor is mounted on the drivers side inner fender well, just in front of the brake master cylinder, at least it is on my 99. Trace the brake lines from the master cylinder, they should lead to the RABS motor.
Let us know what you find.

Thanks for your reply. This is my first experience with older Ford vehicles. Well, I have a 67 Mustang fastback fully restored but gives me little problems.
Anyway, I thought it was odd that both lights came on at the same time. Something common to them both maybe. I did not use a pressure washer but we did hose it down serveral times to remove years of gunk. The brakes seems to work fine and I know the person that sold me the truck would not let it go with bad brakes. I'll check the things you mentioned.
