I paid $27,900. for mine in Nov. 06. But THREE big differences. 1) had 14,000 mi - still looks and smells new. 2) is a "certified" car, meaning ANYTHING that breaks...ANYTHING, is not my problem until 2011. 3) is FOUR wheel drive.
I cannot imagine anyone wanting to bother with a 2 wheel drive car if there is the same type vehicle avail. in four wheel drive. Someone once asked me what logic can I use to defend the extra expense, both at purchase, and in fuel. They want to know how many miles a year do I actually USE the four wheel drive feature. I explain I cant justify it in miles..only in feet! I rather doubt if I use the four wheel drive feature more than a few hundred feet a year, IF that. But those few feet...make the difference in walking to a phone booth to call for a tow, or RIDING in comfort.
So there is a BIG reason why I am willing to pay the premium to have four wheel drive.
And what happens if you have to sell it. Go try and get rid of a vehicle that was offered with four wheel drive, but, yours is the cheaper two-wheel drive version.
6686L, Some of us only need 2wd though and not diesel either. I can't in my situation justify additional money for diesel or 4wd when not really needed. I would rather pay $80 for a tow which will probably never occur than $3k more for something I will rarely use.
My point is to each his own. I am glad you are pleased with your Ex and yes there is a market for 2wd Excursions.

I wish i had 4wd. I can live with 2wd though. And i still go offroading. It all depends on ur tires and how much u know ur trucks limits in not getting stuck
I have 2wd put I am scarred to take any amount of mud here in MS it is more like clay than anything. I am working my way up to diesel 4x4. I started with V-8 now up to V-10 and plan on diesel 4x4 by this coming summer.
