Sean, May I? Paul you will be darn hard pressed to find a better truck engine anywhere than a 390. The year of build and 2 or 4 barrel can make a difference in the HP. Do you know any details of the engine in question?

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
well john, so far the only thing i know about this engine is that it is 2bbl and it"s from the late seventies..it came out of a 79 1 ton ford truck..thats all i know until i can get the serial #"s off of it..PAUL..
Something's not adding up. 1976 the last year that Ford equipped F series trucks with FE engines. If it was in a 1979, it's either an odd replacement, or it's not a FE.
i realize that 76 was the last year for the 390 in f series trucks, this is not the original motor, but it definitely is a 390 , it has the 5 bolt valve covers and the opposing spark plugs...i just wanted to know what the average hp rating was from the factory,, with a 2 bbl carb...PAUL..
On the passenger side of the block is a casting number. We can somwhat give you an idea of what year vehicle it may have come from. This will make a bit of difference in HP ratings. 390's have been rated from under 200HP for the late model 2bbls to 401HP for the tri carb.
1979 F350,4x4,NP435,5:13 gears,Detroit locker in rear with hardened shafts,ABR in the front,360 with 428 crank & rods,390 HP heads,Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch,MSD Ignition,39.5x18 Boggers,bucket seats out of a Lightning,& a Southern Body that is perfect.
