The date code on the block is 6D24, the rods have CF35,does anybody know what it is ?? The VIN is 5a54v221967 waranty plate is 54E M 62 23F 24 1 6 Although the car and engine where built almost a year apart, Every thing looks to be Factory.
First of all are you sure you know the difference between a spread bore and a square bore carb? I know of no spread bore manifold made for the FE. Actually I am almost positive none were ever made. The 6090 after the head casting number usually means that it was from one of the hi-po motors. Note I said usually and not always. The C6ME only tells me that it is not a 427. It could be almost any other. The number you gave us for the rods is not the casting number. Does the rod widen all the way from the small end to the big end or does it stay narrow until it gets to the big end? Look for a casting number on the crank. I believe it is on the number 7 counterweight but I may be wrong. The number may be as short as "2U" or as long as "C9AE-6303-A" (NASCAR crossdrilled forged 427). Knowing the crank and the bore is the best way to determine what you have when you are talking FE's. You will find 428CJ casting numbers on tons of standard 390 blocks. Get the crank casting number and that will narrow it down a lot.
