trans temp gauges etc

I am looking at several different transmission temp gauges. The cheapest ones are "short-sweep" electrical, the most expensive ones are "full-sweep" electrical. The mid-range is mechanical. What is the difference?

if you have purchased a trans temp gauge, what did you pay? do you know if it was short, mechanical, or full?

I am pretty curious to know the cooling efficiency of my trans cooler, so i want to get two of these gauges and put one just upstream and one just downstream of my transmission. if someone could talk me out of this, my wife would be grateful.

Also, how important is it to monitor my differential fluid temp? I am running Dana 50 IFS "snow fighter" in the front and Dana 61 fullfloat in the rear. 3.54 ratio.

Cooling efficiancy or (differential) temp of the cooler is helpful for trouble shooting. But you do not note any troubles. Good for fun but won't be that functional. Best bet would be to go electrical gauge with 2 sensors. Use a single pole double throw switch and you can flip to either one. The sensor will be less than $10. When you finish paying, it can be moved elseware.
This is how I moniter tranny and rear diff with a single gauge. Easily done while putting in my 4.56 gears. Have not seen over 225 on trips, but have not hauled a load at speed since installing. I also run a little extra oil. Drops the temp quite a bit.
Mine gauges are the Autometer Pro Lite. Would prefer to have the full sweep, but could not justify the huge price. I prefer those that start at 100. many start at 130. Too high for my rear diff around town.

missed one of your questions. with the 3.5 gear, tranny temp would usually be more critical than rear diff.
