I fail to see the connection. Maybe a guy must wear a tie to "Get it." I haven't worn a tie since I was 5.

The bicycle frame became the "modern" diamond type long ago, in the 1800's. Ladies wore long dresses exclusively back in the day - anything like "Pantaloons" on the distaff sex was considered far too 'risque', and totally frowned upon.
You consider - straight legged pants even with cuffs would not become caught up in the chain and gears either, though it was a nuisance I suppose for the inner cuff of one leg to become greasy. Thus we (I believe) have the DARING idea of Ladies actually riding bicycles in the park to credit for the origin of chain guards as well - so as not to catch up a skirt in the workings!
Now we have lycra riding gear, and the chain guard has gone bye-bye. I swear, you can see a mosquito bite bump through a set of riding togs these days...
It would never have DONE in the 1890's.... (not at all)
I've had some pretty spectacular bike wrecks, but never have the jewels and the top tube met. They've found the shift levers before (when mounted in the center of the handle bars), but never the top tube. If you watch any bike racing you'll see in the wrecks that the rider and the bike usually separate quickly--the rider has much more mass (and thus, momentum) than the extremely light bike. Over the handlebars or off to the side seem to be the most common unexpected dismounts.
I suppose if one hit a wall while the front tire only had just gone up a slight incline might cause the gonads to be introduced to the top tube.
aint that the truth, When my my bro and I were kids, he got a brand new "roadmaster" 50 dollar walmart type 20" bike... took it off a jump, pulled up, the handle bars came off mid air....
I read somewhere (or was it on "How it is Made") that the mens bikes have the upper tube where it is because it makes the frame much stronger than that of the women's design...
