Damn good tranny as a matter of fact and one thing that makes them bullit proof is the cast iron cases....the dodges and fords had pretty much identical ones and chevy even had a few but not too many......
My Dodge And Bronco Both Have 435, And Just Wandering If I Find A 435 From Ford, If It Could Go In My Dodge. Dodge Trans Is Going And Need To Find One.
I think the biggest obstacle would be finding the output shaft the right spline and finding both the output and input shafts the right lengths for what you need.....your ford has what?an NP205?and that PW probly has a NP203 right?it might all be slammin n jammin......sorry I'm not more insightful.....but those would be the only differences I could think of...unless they changed the way the bellhousing bolts up to the casing.
THAT'S THE QUESTION AT HAND. DODGE 435 TRANS WENT FROM EARLY 70'S TO I THINK 85. THE 203 TRANSFER WAS 77-79 ONLY, THE REST WAS 205 AND 208. I DON'T WANT FULL TIME, SWITCHED MY DODGE FULL TIME AXLES FOR CHEVY 3/4 TON PART-TIME. NOW NEED TO DO TRANSFER CASE SWAP. AND TRANS IS PRETTY BAD SHAPE.
Have you thought about just rebuilding the tranny? IIRC, I once priced and overhaul kit for a NP435 tranny at around $200 -$300. This was for the gaskets and synchros and stuff like that. Things like the lay shaft and other gear assemblies was more.
Also, if you want a NP205 (best T-case IMO), Ford, Dodge, and Chevy all used them. I would think they are all the same except for the spline counts and U-joints. I would think that if you found one other than a dodge, you could just get the parts necessary to swap over to the dodge stuff.
I second that and manuals aren't too difficult at all to rebuild...alot easier than an automatic that's for sure....a 205 is the best as far as I'm concerned...and if you can get your hands on a gear to gear instead of the chain driven...better off....those ain't too shabby to rebuild either and should be pretty decent on price....
