From the service manual:
P0284 Cylinder 8 Contribution/Balance Fault
If base engine diagnostic checks pass, INSTALL a new injector assembly. If base engine does not pass, REPAIR concern. RESTORE system. CLEAR DTCs and RETEST.
I'd say Yes a bad injector could have been the problem.
