I have meant to see if the Job 2 with single alternator really have vacuum brakes as it seems the following indicates. Might be a reason to get dual alternator if you prefer the Hydro Boost.
Vacuum Brakes (Late Availability)
• Provided on all SRW diesel engine models,
except dual alternator installations.
• Dual alternator option continues to use Hydro
Boost brakes.
• Same system as used on SRW gasoline engine
models.
• Includes a vacuum pump on the front accessory
drive of the diesel engine.
• Hydro-Boost will be available as a limited production
I'd definitely go with the twins. However, the 01 and 02 trucks I used to plow with only had the singles and we didn't have many problems with them. I burned an alternator one year, but that's not all that bad. I think that's the only one to go out.
These trucks had a pretty heavy electrical load to. Liftgates, strobes, and 8ft Western snowplows that got worked a lot. They are public works truck that plow the city streets.
as far as i know, all diesels use the hydroboost brakes. alternaters are neally the most reliable thing on vehicles tody. in 47 years of big truck experience, i never lost an alternater in one of my trucks.
