i would definitelystay away from the push-button 4x4. if it works, its nice. but if something gets f'd up, its a pain in the *** to try to fix it. i would pay a little more if i had to to get the floor shifter, but if you find a great deal that happens to have push-button, then get it. the bottom line is you need to know what you want in a bronco, and dont settle for much less, cuz you'll just spend more time and $ making it how you want it

I think the 96 has a different fuel injection system than 92-95 and judging by the lack of comments on it here it may be fine. The 5.0 owners seem to be more likey to try to improve performance but, both are great engines. My 5.8 tows well across Texas with a heavy 14' trailer full of 4-wheelers and full coolers, etc. The transmission was improved around the '94 model year and there was a recall for the upgrade. E4OD replacement is very expensive but if well maintained it is a great transmission. Check the transmission fluid color and smell, lift the air cleaner and look for oil blow by in the air box. Windows may not lower and raise properly but there is pleaty of help on this forum for that. Buy a thirty something dollar code reader, be sure it will work on the 96, and pull the codes which will help you negotiate the price as something will probably show up. You will want the code reader anyway for a 92-96. Test the 4WD to be sure it engages properly. IMO electric 4WD shifts work good as long as they are shifted monthly to keep the shift motor free. Rust is common along the bottom of the tailgate and above the rear wheels so look there. Run the A/C. I would like to welcome you to this forum and Bronco ownership as you will buy one. As you can tell, we are a very biased group that love our Broncos.

96 vehciles are OBDII which is more complicated than the previous vehicles. Unless you are mechanically and electrically very savvy I would get a 95 or earlier.

The OBDI vehciles are all pretty simple bolt together kits and easy to work on. Just check it over throughly and ideally get someone else to test it too.

That is interesting. Do you think the OBDII on your '94 was built for California?

hmm thinking about it I do believe that CA was an early adopter of the new OBDII scheme. '94Nichols perhaps you would post your VIN please.

not from the factory its not 96 is the first year for obd-ii on the bronco & F150. you must have changed the wiring harness, computer etc to allow for that

the f250's never got it, 97 was the last year for the 5.8/460 etc.. and in 98 is when they changed bodystyles and went modular motors like 4.6 & 5.4

one of my buddys said that 96 was the first year that EVERYTHING had OBDII. but that companies had been slowly integrating it in, so that how mine has it.

nope your 94 still doesnt have it period. your obd-II scanner probably works on obd-I as well. many scanners will work that way.

the lincoln town car was the only vehicle ford produced running obd-II during that year and the car was also running the modular 4.6ltr engine.
