What is a longblock?
A longblock is generally defined as a complete bottom end and the heads. Basically everything mechanical minus oil pan, valve covers, ignition, intake, carb.... you get the picture. I'm sure that some have a different perspective of this, but that's what I and everyone I know always referred to a "longblock" as.

Yup. A long block is a short block plus the heads and valvetrain. Many shops offer a long block with the "cam of your choice." Short blocks usually come with an oil pump, so the long block will, too. Long blocks may or may not come with a water pump, so ask the shop. You'll still need an intake manifold, carb, valve covers, oil pan, ignition system, cooling system (radiator, fan, etc.), flexplate or flywheel, etc.
