Cool stupid haynes manual!

I got a parts truck recently and today i was getting some parts off of it. So i looked in my haynes manual to see how to take the starter off (so i could take the solonoid off the starter and put it on my truck), it told me there was 2 bolts. So i took the two bolts that were shown in the picture off. The starter was hard to get off, but was pretty rusty so i figured that it was rusted on there. So i get out a short pry bar to break it loose. Once i get it out i seen why it was hard to get out, there was an extra bolt on top of it that i couldnt see! The stupid manual didnt say anything about that bolt!
In the manual it told me that the thing on the firewall that i thought was the solonoid is a relay (isnt a solonoid just a heavy duty relay?), and the solonoid is on the starter itself.

They are too generic. ............Get yourself a Ford Repair CD

It is a solenoid. The one on the starter is a solenoid as well. The one on the firewall may be listed as a relay now, but it the same as the older Ford solenoids.

why does it use 2 solonoids?

Ford started this in the early 90's. The starter is much smaller than the old style and sounds like a gear reduction starter. Not sure for the exact reason, but I converted my 88 5.0 Mustang to the newer style starter and it cranks much easier. The solenoid on the firewall just sends the 12V to activate the lower solenoid.
