Hey guys, check out my math before I go spend the $$$$- if I put 235/75R15's on the front, and 295/60R15's on the rear, won't I end up with tires that are about the same height as my original 700X15's and the rear tread about 2.4 wider than the front?
I can only suggest you talk to the tire shop guys to determine the height & diameter difference. I call a buddy of mine and he will beable to give the answer tommorrow; if you havn't figure it out by then. There is a chart avaiable to tire shop's to determine this question.
Sorry nothing better than that. You back tires will be alot wider as you allready know.
I'm not smart enough to figure out the calculation; but my buddy owns a tire store and he gave me these figures for you. 235/75/15 is 28.9" tall & 295/60/15 he didn't have a series for that on his books, but a 295/50/15 is 26.6" tall & 2" wider; so I believe a 295/60/15 is probably 1.5" taller give or take. And the front tires are taller than the rear...
I plan on running 215/70R/15's on the front & 275/60R/15 on rear on my 65 one day; the difference is 26.9" front & 28.0" on rear & rear 2" wider than fronts.

Your good, the difference between front and rear is only 1.5mm.
I think that the 295s are going to be a little wide. The space you have to work with on a styleside is 13 inches wide. I have been running 275 65 15s for years and they barley fit(actually show slight rub marks on inner tubs. The 295 is 11.61 inches leaving you only 5/8s of an inch on each side and that is considering you have rims with a perfect offset. The 275 is 10.82" wide giving you about 1 1/8 inches on side. The offset on my rims is put the tires 1" from the inner tubs and 1 1/4" from the bed side lip and like I said before I can see rub marks on the inner tubs.
The 275 65 15 is about 1/8" taller than the 295 60 15.
I've been looking at some new Crager Wheels but I'm not sure which ones to buy. Are the stock wheels on a '66 15x7 or 15x8 ??? I want to go with an "old school" look and have been looking at the Crager Steel Chromed 340 series. I know the bolt pattern is 5x5.50. I wanted to go a little wider than stock tires also, any ideas ???
Stock rim size should be 15x7. or possibly 15x6 I will have to go out and measure.
The 275 60 r15's will work great for you. I run them on the front and back on 15x8 rims. They have the FAT/wide tire look without cutting your wheel tubs etc. They are as wide as you can go without body mods or rubbing. I prefer the BFG AT with the white letters showing. The last set I had went over 60,000 miles on my 65. They handle great in the snow, rain, etc. This is a popular size of tire so you aren't going to be gouged at the tire store they run about $99.00 a piece.

So can I just order the Cragar 15x7 from Summit Racing and be done with it or do I need to take additional measurements????
Before you buy rims you First need to get the backspaceing of the rims to make sure they aren't to "deep dish" or to "shallow". Then take your rime off and see if that backspacing will work. I would recomend a 15x8 rim if you want wider tires than stock.
