Solenoid wiring help....

I have a 1985 with a 351w and had the solonoid go bad. I took the old one out and procrastinated buying a new one, by the time i did i forgot how the old one was wired. I thought i had everything wired up right but after a week of driving my battery went dead. This leads me to believe that maybe its not wired up correctly, or maybe my alternator went bad. Before i rip the alternator out i want to be sure its not my wiring. I will try and explain my wiring to the solenoid. To start i have one wire going to the starter, opposite of that i have the battery cable, the battery cable has a small lead that goes to the alternator (this is the one i am not sure about). On the smaller bolts of the solenoid i have one with 2 wires going to it, one is red with a blue stripe and one is yellow. The other small bolt has one wire going to is, it is yellow and goes tot he Electronic Regulator.

Anyone know if i got this wired up right?

I didn't think that the solenoid had a link to the charging circuit. Do a short test. Place a test light between the negative battery terminal and the negative battery cable. If it lights, then there is something drawing. Disconnect the radio, and any other obvious things, then pull the wires off the selenoid, one at a time. If there's no short then I'd say you're fine.

Just make your own cables and make the cable ends yourself too. Get copper tubing
the same diameter as the cable, Heat it to almost red let cool, Hammer one end flat, drill the diameter hole you need in that end, you should make it a bit longer than the ones you can buy so it has more wire inside it to make better contact, Insert a few pieces of solder(cut1/8"pieces) into
the terminal end, put heat shrink over wire, insert wire and crimp it, heat the connector so the solder inside melts, put a bit of solder on the back part, slide the heat shrink over it and shrink it. Stuck in mud Autozone.com has wiring and vacum diagrams online for free!!
