HELLOOOO, I just got me an engine for my 71 F250, to replace my tired 360...The engine I got was from a 1976 Ford F150 4x4.... The guy said it is a 360, but it has a 4 bbl intake, and where the oil filter mounts, it doesnt go right from the block like my 360 does... its angled towards the front, its it possible that its not a 360???...
The 390 was never offered in the 4x4, so it's unlikely it is a 390. Someone probably just slapped a 4v intake and carb on a 360.
That said, it is possible that someone put a 390 from a car into that truck, and then the motor was pulled from the truck and sold to you. The only way to know for sure is to measure the stroke.
There are a few oil filter adapters that I know of for the FE, but I thought that they only point two directions. One points straight down and the other points straight out from the engine to the drivers side innner fender. My 1969 Ford F100 came with the second version. The one that points straight down would cause the filter to hit the crossmember on the 4x2 trucks.
