Cool ford wont cover rust??

I have a 2004 stx 4X4 love the truck have always driven fords, well when i bought my truck 3 years ago, it came with step bars, running boards what ever you want to call them , well passenger side, all the way at the back there is a rust bubble, a area where no body even steps on, well the dealership says its a aftermarket item they wont cover them, well i explained i bought them with the truck from them, they said true but still a after market, any one else have a problem with there running boards, or know who makes them , they are all black from front to back at each end there not rounded off but like a rectangular end, any one know of these, or kno what brand they might be or know where i can find a manufacture for these id greatly appreciat eit, ill gop to manufacture and see what there warranty is, not ready to dish out $400.00 for new ones. thanks!

Why should Ford warranty an aftermarket part? Your placing the responsibility on the wrong folks.

If the items were installed at the factory, they ARE covered under the 3/36 warranty. I have had to replace them before (not on the 04+). If they were installed AT the dealership, it sounds like they did not use Ford parts, so they would be correct.

I thoght he said that the dealer installed these step bars before they sold the truck to him. Maybe the dealer should pony up!

Is the rust bubble on the body of the truck, or on the running board?

If they are not Ford parts, they need to inform him who the manufacturer was, and to contact them. They only cover Ford branded parts.

I got some aftermarket westin black ones on my 06 that are doing the same thing. The paint is starting to bubble up and peal. I am just going to take them off and give them a good painting. Now they were on there when I got it from the dealer but I know that they are not going to do nothing about it.

I had an 02 that had the factory step bars on it and they replaced them prior to the warranty running out. Had they been aftermarket, i would have just taken them off and painted them myself. It's just an afternoon project and then you know what you have...

I would say that if your truck is still under warranty and the step bars were already intalled when you bought the truck, then you should really fight the dealership to get them to either fix them or replace them. I don't think it should matter any to the customer whether they are Ford brand or after market. Unless they specifically said something about it before you drove it off the lot, they should be covered under the warranty.

well phatpony i guess your not understanding either, i bought the truck brand new, with the step bars on the truck already , meaning on the invoice, it says comes wiht step bars, and yes i am going to fight with dealership, and yes they should at least give me what manufaturer this is so ican go after them, usually step bars are pretty much life time warranty, and for them only being almost 3 yrs old, some one should at least fix or replace them.

If the truck didn't leave the factory with step bars. Ford Corporate will not cover the repair. If the step bars came from the factory you would be covered. All dealers are private they only buy the trucks from Ford and sell them to us at a profit. Your real problem is with the dealer for putting on a crappy step bar. Make the dealer eat the cost of the replacement they are the one's you purchased the step bar from not Ford Motor Corp.

If you take a picture of them we might be able to tell if they are aftermarket or OEM. When does your 3yr/36K warranty end?

FORDE will NOT cover them. So don't waste your time getting mad!! My 2004 FX4 rear bumper starting rusting BADDD under the rubber top pad. FORD will NOT cover these NOR the Chrome rear bumpers that do the same thing!! Just save yourself some time/greif and blast/paint them. My bumper is fine now. FORD's rust warranty is on BODY panel perforation rustout...NOT bumpers/steps...etc. Been there...dona ALL that already! I had a good body shop blast/paint my bumper...looks good as new!! JUSY my two cents worth! Joe
