My new to me truck has an issue. If you turn on the headlights with the radio on the radio flickers. Also, if you leave the light on after you shut off the truck the radio stays on with the lights...weird...its an aftermarket radio.
The blue/red stripe wire is for radio illumination
I would suggest there is a wiring problem because someone used that blue/redwire for the wrong thing.
Aftermarket stereo's have.
Red -Main Power wire
Yellow - Memory power wire (always hot)
Blue - Electric antenna wire
Black - Ground
2 RCA jacks for pre-out
4 Speaker wire connectors for front and rear speakers
ok your not the only one my 96 f-150 does this same thing ive rewired the entire system spaeakers and all and still caint fix it. so input would be nice or is it a manufactured (defect) that they never told peple about. dosnt realy bother me i am just the type of person thats got to know y.
If it's wired correctly, then I would suspect a ground problem. I would bolt a wire to the back of the radio, and bolt the other end to a known good ground on a bracket under the dash. Then make sure you have the factory small ground wire running from the rear of the engine block, to the firewall under the hood.
If you have the blue wires connected it will cause this.. The blue wire in the truck harness is for light control (dimming)on the stock radio! The blue wire on the aftermarket radio is for powering a powered antenna or operating a amp!! DO NOT connect these two together!!
If those two blue wires are connected you are backfeeding the other system Lights to radio and versa vice!!! Definately disconnect my buddies chevy had that same problem when I finally broke down and looked at it for him it was the blue wire! He burnt two light switches out (70.00 each) and two tailight assemblies (40.00 each) I was like man I usually don't work on chevies but, Since he was the type to always brag about how righteous his chebby was!!!
