4R100 questions
So, I am thinking about doing a supercharger system on my 03' F250 5.4l and I want the tranny to be able to handle the upgrade. I see that I can buy a new valve body for better shifts and Banks has a programmer for the transmission. Are there any better options and can I combine both of those kits?

I Really got you thinking about a Supercharger for the truck eh? The 4R100 is already a strong Tranny. You got to remember, they used it on the 7.3L in your year and that was putting out 500 lb.ft of torque! With the blower your going to be displacing alot less. So i say leave her be. If you think the tranny will need a little help and you want to use a new valve body, since your dropping the pan why don't you Replace it with a bigger one and use some Synth ATF (Mercon/Mer5 Rated). It will help keep those temps down. As for the 4R100, i have a Great amount of trust in her.

I Can Tell you that there were never many 4R100's from 99-03 with a 7.3L in front of her that came throught this shop on Warranty or Customer Pay Repairs, and thats why i place my trust in her. Once again, he'll be putting out alot less Torque.
"kbeefy" Your Right, But the Extra fluid helps alot.

Having replaced the first 4R100 at 40k miles, and just rebuilt the 2nd one at 99k miles I would agree that it is the weak link. However, recently installed tranny temp gauge suggests I need more cooling and maybe a better fluid. I run Mercon now. Is the Mercon/Mer5 different or better? Where do I find it, and how does one classify tranny fluids by their heat removal abilities?
