I need some expert advice because I am not much of a mechanic. I'm looking at either rebuilding my 390, or switching to a 429 that I can buy. What all will I have to change? I'm only looking at small performance mods......2bbl to 4bbl, headers, cam, etc. I have the C8AEH heads, which I understand were used on 360/390/428 engines for about four years. Does this mean the heads were the same? I mean did they use the exact same heads on all three? Also, are these heads worth keeping on the engine? I really didn't want the expense of working them with bigger valves. Does anyone know HP specs for the 390, and 429 so I can compare? Also, does anyone know the specs for the Mach 1 390's?
Thanks for any help
The 1969 390GT 4-V found in the Mustang should have a 320bhp rating@4,600rpm&427Lb./ft. of torque@3,200rpm.There were sooo many versions of the 429 engine,it would take hours to list all the horsepower&torque ratings, and explain all the changes/specs over the years. The 390 is a member of the FE-series of Ford big-blocks,while the 429s are 385-series big-blocks,so really,no parts can be interchanged. Both engines are good choices. For advice on the 429,you might post questions you have in the 385-series forum.

Not too much, just the engine mounts,
the transmission, and maybe the radiator...
