Exhaust Question

I have a 1977 F100 with a 300 in it and for some reason the muffler is connected almost right onto the Cat. The only thing between them is a 5" extension pipe, is this ok for the truck??? Did it come from ford like that or was that something the previous owner did?? I also recently got a Thrush Cherry Bomb glass pack for on it and to me it doesent sound and diff, but is it true once their on and get broken in some they get louder?

If you want it to get louder your gona half to take the cat off, hear in pa you dont half to have a cat on something that old, but it may be diffrent where your from.

Yeah after 6 months or so many miles glasspacks blow out the packing in them which is fibreglass so it gets louder some people suggest getting them super hot by driving lots etc reviing then sprayin them down with cold water

My ?? to getting the metal HOT then spraying it down is a bad case of metal fatigue and the cherry bomb may "deteriorate" into 'parts'. If you want LOUD, take it off or modify it. It's not hard to get a standard muffler - open 1 side of it - empty it - braze or weld it back togather and install it with the opened side up and out of sight. If your handy w/ fabrication, it's not hard to make a "wanna-be" muffler. Any kid can do that in metal shop.
