15w50 syn?
i was at my local target store the other day and decided to stroll throught the auto section, and i see 5 qts. of mobil 1 15w50 on clearance for 4.00? wtf? they are new, sealed and look fine, i am currently running mobil1 5-40 in my rig, think it would hurt if i put these 5 qts in with my next oil change?

Check the rating. It's probably for a gasser. Why do you even want to take a chance with a motor that expensive when oil is comparatively cheap? You might get away with it, but you might also start damage that could potentially shorten the overall longevity of your motor---kinda like a snowball.

I wouldn't but that may just be me, are you certain the 15W-50 oil has the correct ratings for your diesel? AFAIK the 15W-50 Mobil 1 is primarily recommended for use in high performance gas engines.
