Off Topic - Ford PS Pump

Can anyone tell me what the size of the outlet fitting is on a '71 Ford PS pump.

I am replacing mine with a Saginaw pump, and I need a Male-to-Male adapter fitting. The Ford pump outlet is a male for a Flared tube nut. I tried a 3/8" and a 1/2", it appears to be a 7/16-20(?).

I think that the Saginaw pump is 3/8" NPT.

I posted this on the Suspension & Steering forum, but haven't gotten any replys.

A pump fitting won't be NPT, it'll be Inverted Flare Series.

I know the outlet nut diameter is 5/8", and its bigger than the inlet, which is 3/8 IFS. I think it is 7/16 - 20... thats the only size I can think of that matches.

I know my local O'Reilly's carries Edelmann fittings and they have the fitting you are speaking of.

I went to a Hydraulics place today. He says that the Ford Thompson pump has an SAE flare fitting, and the Saginaw pump is a 37 degree Inverted Flare. He has no adapter for that. He can make up a new hose that connects the Mustang II R&P to the Saginaw for about $40.00. I am going to do that as soon as I get the new pump mounted, and the correct length for the hose.

I bought a new March PS pump bracket #30405. It looks like it will work, but my Saginaw pump has two 5/16-18 studs in the back. The March bracket requires that I put a 5/16-18 hex head bolt into the lower stud location to attach a bracket that bolts the PS pump to the motor. The stud is too short to put a nut on it, and I haven't been able to remove it with nominal force. I have to remove this stud or get a different bracket.

I sent March an email about this.

I removed the two studs in the back of the saginaw pump after talking to the March tech. I replaced them with bolts. Now the pump will mount to the head, but the March bracket that mounts to the water pump doesn't line up with the 5/16-18 holes in the WP bosses. I called March tech again, and was told that it is my Weiand WP that is wrong. I checked that out with an OE replacement WP, that I have. The OE pump lines up with the bracket. I took the March bracket to a local machine shop to get one of the countersunk holes elongated to line up with my WP.

I am still waiting for the March Serpentine pulley, that I purchased on Ebay. I need to get the bracket and the pulley mounted to be sure it will all line up, before I get that hose made.

Well, I hope it works out, and its a good thing you had a good hydraulic person to talk to... I just knew they weren't NPT threads...

I don't have the Serp. pulley yet, but it looks like it lines up with the WP & Alt. That won't work, since I don't have a reverse rotation WP. The PS pulley has to line up with the front serp drive on my March dual drive crank pulley. The old Thompson pump did line up correctly.
