I need help!

I am having some problems with my 95 F-150 with 4.9l.I can drive for 15-20 miles and then cut it off and when I return it will not crank.I will leaveand come back and it will not start.I open up the hood and dissconnect the battery and leave for 30 minutes and it will not crank up.I thought it was the coil or the ignition control module. So I changed both of them. But it is doing the same thing.I am thinking maybe something is getting hot,And once it cools off it will start up.I do not know what else to do to it.Any help would be appreciated.Eric.

When you say not crank I'm making the assumption it will not turn at all or that it turns very slowly..I would suggest that you first check the battery for actual voltage and a load test. If you can you should also check the starter and solenoid also to see how much amperage they're drawing. Sounds like when it gets hot the armature may be going bad in the starter. Hope this helps.. Good luck.

Whoa wait... First you said it didn't crank at all. Lets set the story straight.

You drive the truck for a little while, turn it off. Now when you turn they key back to run again, the engine cranks REER-REER-REER-REER but never fires and starts running? Or you turn the key and NOTHING happens?

Can you attach a sound clip of you making that noise? Sorry, but I cracked up at the first REER, just thinking what it might sound like for a grown man to be immitating a starter. Sorry, Skan, just had a giggle at your expense.

Eric,

Definitely a heat related problem. Could be the ECT opening up after operating temperature is reached, could be the TPS breaking down when warm, could be a lotta things. Lotsa things are affected by the engine heat. A little more diagnostics and info is needed to help you though. Does the truck start running bad while driving it? Is it eating fuel and building more retirement plans for oil executives? Do you smell fuel when you're trying to start it?

You said you replaced the ignition module (I'm assuming you mean the TFI) and the coil. Did you check the dizzy cap for cracks? How 'bout the coil wire for possible failure? Are you sure you're getting a nice bright blue spark at the plugs? I'm leaning more toward a fuel delivery issue than ignition at this point.

Pull the codes on it, and see if the ECM is showing any codes. Sometimes it will have stored codes, but the CEL will not come on. I forget how many it will store, but it's several. 15 miles is barely enough distance for the truck to warm up fully. It takes probably 20 miles, especially at speeds over 40 mph for mine to fully warm up all the coolant.

It seemed that the OP was a bit confused with terminology so I was trying to be as clear as possible

Mine used to be hard to restart you could crank and crank on it nothing release the key and try again and it would start right up. Just keep it tuned up check or replace battery and starter.
