Engine Race
I have a 2001 F 150 Crew Cab 4x4 with the 5.4 L. When starting the engine (doesn't matter if engine is warm or cold) the motor races up to around 1800 RPM's and them falls back to around 1400 RPM at which time I have to set for a little bit around 30-40 seconds before I put it in reverse or drive. If I don't wait mainly in reverse the transmission pauses and then clunks into reverse. Any ideas why the racing of the motor? Thanks for the help

Sounds like a sticking/ slow reacting IAC. Idle Air Control valve. You can try removing it and cleaning it with brake parts cleaner. Here is a picture of where it is.https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...=99255&width=2
