How hard is it to rebuild a Carb. I have a 68 f100 360 wiht a 2bbl carb. I dont know what the cfm is... only sticker/tags that are on it are one that says Rebuilt "holley". I know there are 4 bolts that hold it on. After taking these bolts off, would i just 'dip' it in the carb cleaner stuff they sell at the autostore? How hard is it to hook all the linkage up and such. Please giveme all the info you have on this.
First off you will need to buy a re-build kit. Buy only a Holley brand kit IMHO. After you get the carb off you will need to dis-assemble it before cleaning. Pay close attention to how it comes apart. I have only worked on 4bbl Holley's so some of this may not apply. Take the front bowel off and remove the fuel inlet valve and Accel pump. Remove the choke control linkage from the body. Unscrew the base plate from the carb body. Under the choke butterflys you will find the Accel pump squirter. Should be a phillips screw holding it down. Be careful when you get this screw out as under it you will find a check valve and maybe a check ball.
I would'nt worry about removing the choke or the 2 butterfly valves in the carb base plate. Their screws are staked in.
Clean everything VERY well. Pay close attention to all the tiny passages in the carb body. I bought the cleaner that's in a 1 quart can. It has a basket in it. Put all the parts that will fit in it over night for a good soaking.
Assemble carb in reverse over. Don't be alarmed if your carb kit contains some extra parts that don't apply to your carb. The kit will cover many models. The kit will have instructions for setting your fuel level and Accl pump linkage among other things. As for the idle mixture gently screw the needles all the way in then back them out 1 1/2 turns. Fine tune them after you get the engine cranked.
The Holley web site has lot's of info also. Hope this helps.
