Now, last week it started as described above...idled long enough for me to put it in gear....there was a very SLIGHT SPIKE in rpm....probalby not enough to be noticed on the tach....then it stalled. Reminded me of a 2 stroke engine running out of fuel...leaning out for a brief second.
I had to crank several times ( a few seconds each time ) with half throttle input to get it to start again....cycling the glow plugs ...
It sounds like your return line are letting air in this could have happened if you changed glow plugs recently. If the plastic caps on the injectors are still painted gray they are probebly what is giving you the problem, I got the return line kit aka (injector installation kit( from the local checker auto.
Mine has done it once or twice if I park it with the nose on a hill . I,m sure I have a small leak somewhere . Not enough to worry about at the moment .
I thought I was nuts!! But, one in our fleet ALWAYS starts and stays running parked down hill, and NEVER stays running after start-up parked up hill (severe air intrusion in 15 minutes). I finally gave up trying to track down the problem. It's much easier just watching how it's parked. Then there is an "86", that's never been touched, that can sit for months parked up hill, and fire and run on the first cycle of the plugs. Go figure!
