Maxium4x4 was kind enough to do an Oasis report for me, thanks! Does this mean that these were the only things wrong with the vehicle or is this just from Ford? Would something like CarFax reveal more? I'm hesitant to pay for a CarFax only to be told the same. On the free vin check one site says 8 items and another says five but gives no clue to what it is unless you pay $25.
The Oasis report only lists the work done at a Ford or Mercury dealer on the truck. If the truck was worked on at a private shop, that would not be on the Oasis report.
Blub, I'm new on here... but I have access to carfax for the next 20 or so days. I got a month subscription before I bought my truck. I can run the vin for you and e-mail it to you if you want me to. If you don't mind you can post VIN here or e-mail it to me. Champdog21@aol.com.
Carfax is not 100% acurate, if they took the truck to a private shop it will not show.
I have a 1990 mustang with 65000 miles, bought it new and carfax reported that the caR should have around 200k miles. That someone tampered with the speedometer.
I have been the only owner and that didn't happen.
How do you explain that?
I believe the way they calculate mileage is they look at the last time the vehicle was registered to a person, then add the number of miles per year that an average vehicle would be driven. Like you said, you've only put 65,000 miles on it, but if driven daily, the average person would have put 200,000 miles on it buy now.
If it were sold today, when the new owner registered it at the DMV with 65,000 miles, and the information finally made it into the Carfax database, they would probably start the calculation over again from the 65,000 mark.
They estimate the mileage to help a potential buyer know the ballpark range the vehicle should have on it. It cannot and does not take into account occasional or recreational use. As always, there are exceptions that have to be taken into account, and that's where the buyer has to use their head and gut feeling.

I definately agree that it won't show up if it was done at a private shop. He just asked about a carfax and I thought I would be of help if he wanted a report... Also I have asked for an oasis from the forum to check the 6.0 I just bought Monday
