Car C6 to '76 highboy

Will a C6 (with FE bellhousing) out of a car work with my 390 in my 1976 F250? I have the divorced t-case, so I'm not worried about that part, but am wondering about the mounting.

I am ready for a new trans and have found a deal on one in Craigslist.

Thanks guys

There are atleast 2 thing that the car trans. doesn't have for it to work. The shift lever is in the wrong position & the tail housing doesn't have the t-case lever pivot bracket that is built into the f250 4x4trucks tail housing. If you are dead set on putting the car trans. in you will have to fab a shift linkage,t-case shift lever bracket,& plug the speedo hole.

That makes sense to me. I was planning on going with a floor mounted B&M cable-linked shifter anyway, so that's not a big deal. However, I didn't think about the t-case shifter. I guess I'll be crawling under the truck tonight to look at the linkage to see if I can fab something.

This trans is rebuilt, never run, warrantied & $300. A lot less than the $1000 I'm just about to spend otherwise. Might be worth my time to make it work.

i put a 2wd C6 truck trans in my 75 hi-boy the linkage was the same but I had to fab up a transfercase shifter mount I used the tail shaft bolts and two of the panbolts to mount a bracket I made using some 1/8 in steel and a piece of pipe the same inside dia as the stock pivot bolt for the tranfercase linkage I had a custom drive shaft made with the slip yoke on one end and correct u-joint on the rear its about 11 inches long joint to joint but I probabley should have made it a 1/2 inch shorter for a little more movement in the slip yoke but it has worked fo 5 years now and this is the truck I plow snow with .

If you currently have a C6 now, pay a shop to gut/clean, swap the innards of your existing trans. It is possible to do it yourself (swap the guts) without any special tools.

ok if you allready have a c6 just have a shop rebuild it same cost as c
swaping guts but to me it sounds like Shamelessmt has a 4spd if this is true the simplest swap is to get the pedal set up from a truck with an auto and the steerinig column put your existing steering sector shaft into the auto column you have to move the crossmember back a little make a bracket for the transfercase shifter plug the speedo cable hole and get a drive shaft made. get a radiator with a tranny cooler or do like I did and use an A/C condensor mounted if front of the radiator makes a big cooler

I have a c6 right now. Didn't think about swapping guts. Great idea except for the cost. By the time I pay someone to do that I may as well spend a few extra bucks to have mine rebuilt the way I want it. I don't have anywhere I'd be willing to take an automatic apart by myself. I'm sure I'd end up with dirt and other stuff in it and make it worthless.
