I am instaling a built 390 in my 79 F-250 4X4 and would like to use headers to complement my cam and intake and so on, but because i have a 79 chasie with a maried transfer case the front drive line runs directly through the space where the header should be and the frame cross member that suports the trany-tranfer case is directly in line with the out put of the headers even if it did cleer the drive line.
My question is have anyone done this convertion and know if there are heaers out there that will work weather they are for a car or some other aplication. And can any one tell me if they have make over the frame headers for FE engines and where I could find a set if they did.
Thats a no to the starter coming out once the Headers are in atleast with the headmans i have that wont work. And I will certinty look in to block huggers never thought of going that route there should be enugh room is the pic of a FE? thanks fo the help this project has been a long one and i am neering the end of the road. I wll try to get a pic up hear soon.
Hello
I combined a 72 2wd with a 78 4x4 and put the 390 in the 78 chassis. I used 1976 engine mounting pedistals, and used headers for a 1976 4x4. I used an inexpensive brand, Flowtech, they were only $100, but they fit fine and the starter comes of without any troubles.
I dont know if they changed anything for 79', I doubt it. These were not shorty style.
