AOD Removal...how to...
My AOd in my 1988 F-150 4x4 will not upshift into 2nd gear. I have pulled the pan and dd not see any metal at all. Changed fluid in hopes that would fix it, but no. So, I guess it needs to come out. I will be doing this in my driveway and was looking for tips, tricks to do this. I also heard that this could also be caused by a stuck governor. Can the governor be pulled out with the tranny still in the truck? What do I look for on the governor?

You've probably just got a bad shift solenoid or it may have something to do with the computer reading your speed and knowing when to shift. Do some more hw before you go ahead with pulling the trans. How many miles are on it?

An AOD does not have any electronics. The first thing to check is the operation of the throttle pressure linkage/cable. The lever on the transmission should follow the movement of the throttle. If the throttle pressure mechanism is working smoothly then check the governor. The governor is accessible by removing the extension housing from the transmission. The governor is attached to the governor collector by two phillips head screws. Be carefull not to lose the valves inside the governor, they might fall out. The parts inside the governor should be free moving. If the governor is not stuck and the throttle pressure parts are working properly then you might be to a point where the transmission needs to come out for repair. In my experience when valves in the governor or valve body stick there is something failed inside the transmission causing particles to move around in the oil which get into the valves causing them to stick.
