What can cheaply and easily be done to FE heads to make them flow and perform better? How about some not so cheap and easy stuff? I just need ideas at this point. I'd love to be able to have a pair to bolt on, but all the one's I've looked at are just too expensive. Anybody got any bright ideas?
Cheapest and easiest is to port them to match your intake and headers. If you have a steady hand, you can do it yourself with any of a number of kits that are available.
Beyond that, the best head improvement is to install larger valves. You can put Cobra Jet size valves in just about any FE head, and sometime can go even larger. That's a professional job, though. While the shop is at it, you should have them unshroud the valves, polish the combustion chambers, and install hardened seats for the exhaust valves.
For port matching, use a die grinder. I have a set that I know has been ported & polished on the exhaust side, and is equipped with ARP rocker shaft studs. Can't wait to get those bolted on, combined with the Edelbrock performer cam, and the performer rpm intake, it should really run!
